Our Goals

President's Message

Dear SHRM-Memphis Members:

It’s mid-October in Memphis, and in this last quarter of 2019, I wanted to reach out and share some thoughts about our chapter activities this year.

2019 has been a year full of positive momentum and innovative programming, as our Signature Event series kicked off with the HR Excellence Awards in February, followed by the expanded Legal Conference in March. Our 3rd annual Inclusive Diversity Conference in October completed the series, with a record-breaking attendance of 170, but we did much more than that this year.

Our monthly meetings focused on cutting-edge HR topics such as Innovative Wellness, Talent Acquisition, and Mindful Mediations. In the fall, our topics included The Science of Mentorship and Workplace Investigations, with our final two meetings focusing on Leadership Development in Today’s Corporate Strategy and Preparing for Compensation Changes in 2020.

Special events like our Kick-Off Mixer in January and our July HR Connect at Crosstown Concourse offered informal opportunities for networking, sharing information and hearing from some of the best and brightest in the local HR community.

Our chapter has never been stronger, thanks to the excellent teamwork and strategic focus of our all-volunteer board, and we are positioned to head into 2020, when we will host the State HR Conference in November (November 1-4—mark your calendars NOW!), ready to make it our best year ever!

Help us finish 2019 strong by being an active part of this progressive, dynamic organization!

All the best,

Verlinda Henning, SPHR, SHRM-SCP
