Committees

Ambassadors

Members of the ambassador’s team greet event attendees and provide directions to those who are lost or requiring specific direction. These volunteers will answer questions about various events and the chapter.  Ambassadors are the initial point of contact as individuals enter the event, as well as inside the event ensuring that people are intermingling and feel comfortable, while encouraging networking. Career Emphasis Group

Individuals, who serve with the various CEG Leaders / Chair, provide support in planning and hosting CEG meetings.  The various Career Emphasis Groups host quarterly training seminars to benefit the targeted concerns and professional needs of the HR Professionals.  The following are the various CEG Groups for which you can serve:  Ethics, Comp and Benefits, Staffing, and Transition.  For more information email CEGLeader@shrm-memphis.org

 

Communications

A great communication system is the life blood of any organization.  SHRM-Memphis is making strides to ensure that we bring timely up-to-date news and relevant resources to its members.  To participate with this committee, writing skills are a plus.  This committee helps to develop our newsletters, web content and social media postings.  This team also manages our career center job postings and internships.  If you have a love for communicating with others, this committee could use your enthusiasm.  For more information about this committee, please email vpcommunications@shrm-memphis.org or communication@shrm-memphis.org.

 

Community Outreach

This committee monitors, evaluates and creates opportunities for activities to improve community relations while working to address workforce readiness issues.  Such activities include but are not limited to the development of curriculum for job training workshops; participating in community events as a representation of SHRM’s presence in the community, and more.  There are various ways you can volunteer with this committee.  For more information about this committee please email commoutreach@shrm-memphis.org.

 

Foundation

The SHRM Foundation advances global human capital knowledge and practice by providing thought leadership and educational support, and sponsoring, funding and driving the adoption of cutting-edge, actionable, evidence-based research.  The Foundation is a nonprofit organization, separate from SHRM that helps shape the future of HR. They do this through three initiatives: 1) Scholarships: The SHRM Foundation provides more than $150,000 in scholarships each year. 2) Research grants: The SHRM Foundation is one of the largest funders of HR research. And 3) Educational products: The SHRM Foundation offers many complimentary reports, such as the Effective Practice Guidelines series, where they take the academic research and best practices on a particular topic and condense it into an easy-to-read guide for HR practitioners.  By participating with this committee you will be assisting in educating members about the importance of supporting SHRM Foundation, assist in the planning of events that are designed to benefit and raise funds for SHRM Foundation and more.  If you have the gift of fundraising, or has the ability to network and motivate others to support initiatives, then this committee is for you.  For more information on this committee, please email foundation@shrm-memphis.org.

 

Hospitality

The Hospitality team is responsible for securing event locations, negotiating contracts, coordinating themes and managing the details and registration for each event.  You can assist this team if you are open to greeting guest and managing the registration process, by checking in guest. HR Recognition

It is important to our chapter that we acknowledge and honor the professional accomplishments of our members.  Such accomplishments include graduations, promotions and related advance HR certifications.  From time to time, this committee will also work with community partner’s to promote excellence in HR and to acknowledge the accomplishments of HR Professionals city-wide. Member Engagement

The Member Engagement team is a very intricate part of this organization.  They work together to recruit, and retain members by promoting the value of the national SHRM membership.  This team also works with VP of Membership to drive growth and increase interest in the chapter and the organizations activities.  This team utilizes and engages volunteers, while identifying productive and creative roles for members as needed within the Chapter.  The purpose is to engage our members in areas that interest them most so they can be effective and receive the most benefit out of their membership as well as the volunteer experience.  Another important function this team performs is working with the VP of Membership to plan and host bi-monthly Member Orientations.   For more information about this committee, please email memberengagement@shrm-memphis.org .

 

Professional Development

This committee supports our members by providing ongoing professional information, including organizing study groups or coordinating resources for individuals preparing to take PHR, SPHR, and GPHR accreditation exams.  To receive information about upcoming exams and other study resources email this committee at profdevelopment@shrm-memphis.org .

 

Programs

The Programs Committee works with the VP of Programs to promote and encourage professional development through chapter meetings and events to maintain SHRM professional certification (PHR/SPRH/GPHR).  Such effort by this team ensures that our members have access to HRCI credit programs.  Candidates for this committee are willing to review program content, assist in finding speakers, provide promotional information, evaluate program success, have a strong awareness of current industry topics, and have reliable affiliations with other organizations.  For more information regarding this committee, please email vpprograms@shrm-memphis.org  or programs@shrm-memphis.org .

 

Treasury Committee

The Treasury Committee is responsible for the financial affairs of the Chapter.  Individuals for this committee are responsible for financial reports to the Board of Directors.  In addition this team coordinates annual examination audit of the accounts as may be required by the Board.   Moreover, this team ensures that invoices are paid in a timely fashion.  Also, there is some time spent by committee members coding transactions and revenue for the chapter.  For more information, please email treasurer@shrm-memphis.org.

 

 State Conference

Every four years our chapter has the honor of hosting the Tennessee State Regional Conference. The process of planning usually requires a minimum of two (2) years.  We will host the State Conference again in 2016. There are various areas volunteers are needed for this project.  From the actual planning to the execution thereof, multiple volunteers will be recruited for this conference.  No task is too small in which your contribution will not be appreciated.  If you have a gift or service you wish to contribute please email stateconference@shrm-memphis.org.

 

Student Chapter/College Relations

This committee serves as liaisons between SHRM-Memphis Chapter and colleges and universities promoting HR profession.  This committee helps to coordinate activities, promotions, and scholarship information with the Student Chapter Advisor on campuses. Workforce Development

The SHRM-Memphis Workforce Development Committee shall monitor and evaluate, on a continuing basis, activities concerning workforce readiness issues and plans, and encourage chapter involvement and activities impacting these issues.  Committee volunteers provide the following support:

  • Serve as advocates and assist in coordinating chapter activities on workforce readiness. 
  • Act as SHRM liaisons on workforce readiness issues with other local agencies, programs, and projects.
  • Develop and/or support workshops and seminars which address workforce readiness initiatives and issues.
  • Respond to any other requirements of the SHRM-Memphis chapter including monthly newsletter updates and annual SHAPE reports.
