Our Goals

President's Message

Dear SHRM-Memphis Members:

Happy New Year! As your new President, it’s my distinct honor and privilege to serve you, the HR professional community, for the next two years.

Our theme for 2018 is “Growing HR Excellence” through engagement, empowerment and education, as we seek to excel in every aspect of our professional lives.

Engagement starts with you—our members—and we’re offering monthly meetings and quarterly networking opportunities to engage with you and welcome you to the SHRM-Memphis family! Our first event is a Mix & Mingle at Zebra Lounge in Overton Square on January 16, followed by the first meeting of the year on January 23 at the DoubleTree by Hilton on Sanderlin, featuring a timely and provocative program on subtle discrimination, followed shortly by 2 of our signature events: the Annual SHRM-Memphis HR Excellence Awards on February 20 and our Legal Day in March. Later in the year, our 2nd Annual Diversity & Inclusion Conference will take place.

Empowerment is another key theme for SHRM-Memphis this year, as we develop leaders for the Memphis and Mid-South HR community of the future through our professional development programming and leadership opportunities within our organization.

Education—whether learning from a speaker at a monthly meeting or from each other—is essential to grow in excellence, and our Programs team has an entire year of relevant and powerful programming planned to help us all, whether new professionals or the more “seasoned” among us, continually grow and develop in our HR knowledge and skills.

Stay in touch with us through our website (www.shrm-memphis.org), our social media presence (Facebook, LinkedIn) and most importantly, by attending and fully participating in our monthly programs and our networking events.

My personal goal as president for the next 2 years is to serve you—the members of the Memphis HR community—and partner with our dedicated and innovative board members to help our organization and all of us reach new heights of professional growth and excellence!

Everyone reading this has a role to play in helping SHRM-Memphis excel, and by working together, 2018 will be our best year yet!

With gratitude,

Verlinda J. Henning, SPHR, SHRM-SCP
